This red wine from Baglio Gibellina is from the Sogno del Sud organic series, one of the best-selling lines from this beautiful winery in Sicily. Nestled among elegant and historic buildings is the modern winery surrounded by vineyards. Besides the vineyards, Baglio Gibellina is also rich in ancient olive trees that grace the beautiful landscape. As mentioned, the Sogno del Sud series is 100% organic. This requires a lot of extra work in the vineyards, but this is certainly reflected in the exceptionally pure wines.

Organic red wine

The Merlot grapes for this Italian red wine are grown with the utmost care by the winemaker and his team. This Merlot grape requires plenty of warmth to thrive in all that the sun and soil have to offer. However, it's also important that the grapes receive some coolness. Therefore, these Merlot grapes are planted in such a way that they receive sufficient coolness from the evening breeze. At perfect ripeness, the grapes are hand-picked in the early morning. Because the harvest takes place early in the morning, the grapes are still dormant. This makes the skins more resistant to any bruising on the way to the winery and reduces oxidation. Once at the press, the grapes are pressed and vinified in steel tanks. After bottling, the wine will age in the bottle for several months before the winemaker releases the red wine.

The taste of the Sogno del Sud Merlot

The result is truly magnificent, and this Organic Baglio Sogno del Sud Merlot is a true gem. Its color is a beautiful ruby red with a deep purple rim. This intense color carries through to wonderfully intense aromas. We noted aromas of black and red fruit interspersed with a subtle hint of spice and a touch of cherry vine at the finish. On the palate, this red Baglio Merlot is wonderfully smooth and full of impressions of ripe red and black fruit. A slight hint of spice helps the wine retain plenty of power. The finish is intense, sultry, and silky smooth. What a gem!
