The Alois Lageder Gaun Chardonnay DOC is a full-bodied Chardonnay fermented and aged in steel tanks and wooden barrels. The grapes come from the vineyards, and the name traces back to the Baron Gaun family in the 17th century, the first owners of the Löwengang residence. It is a rich wine full of tropical fruit.

Italian wines from Alois Lageder

Without a doubt, Alois Lageder is one of Italy's greatest wine producers. His grandfather laid the foundation for this winery in Trentino in 1855, and Alois Lageder continued to build on it. Born and raised in the Adige Valley, he knew exactly how to cultivate the region's finest grapes. The vineyards in Magrè and Salorno lie at altitudes of 230 to 500 meters. The soil consists of sand and limestone, and the vines planted here are between 10 and 40 years old. The grapes here enjoy a cool microclimate with significant daytime and nighttime temperature variations. This is crucial for preserving sufficient freshness and acidity in the grapes. The grapes grow on sandy, gravelly, limestone soils. The vineyard enjoys a warm microclimate with significant temperature variations between day and night. The grapes are harvested by hand at peak ripeness. In the winery, the grapes are rigorously selected and gently pressed. The must then undergoes spontaneous fermentation. Finally, the wine is aged for five months, partly in wooden barrels and partly in stainless steel tanks.

The characterful Gaun Chardonnay

This Gaun Chardonnay is golden yellow in the glass with greenish reflections. Aromas of white pear. The whole is supported by a light, fine minerality, but also a subtle buttery note. The palate is equally distinctive. Full-bodied, yet very well-structured thanks to high acidity. Pear and light hints of tropical fruit are present again. And finally, a wonderfully fresh, lingering finish. Wonderfully tense, full-bodied, and elegant.
