Colterenzio Sauvignon Blanc Alto Adige DOC Lafóa 2024, Italy

The Colterenzio Lafóa Sauvignon Blanc is anything but a standard Sauvignon Blanc. This is a wine that immediately impresses with its combination of power, refinement, and excitement. Where many Sauvignon Blancs are all about being fresh and light, Lafóa goes a step further. Here you get structure, depth, and a wine that continues to develop in the glass.

This is one of those bottles you don't just pour quickly, but really sit down to enjoy.

Origin: Alto Adige

The grapes come from Alto Adige, a mountainous region in Northern Italy where altitude and sun perfectly come together.

  • Sunny, cool hills: ensure ripe fruit and fresh acidity.
  • Sandy soils with moraine deposits: provide structure and finesse.
  • High-altitude vineyards: ensure slow ripening and aromatic precision.

This combination results in a Sauvignon Blanc that feels both crisp and rich.

Grape and vinification

Sauvignon Blanc – Alto Adige
Sauvignon Blanc takes on a much more serious, layered style here than you might be used to.

The grapes are harvested fully ripe, briefly macerated, and then pressed. About half of the wine ferments in stainless steel, while the other half ferments in oak barrels and barriques. The wine then ages for about 8 months on its fine lees.

This combination of steel and wood creates tension, but also roundness and extra depth.

Character and style

In the glass, the intensity is immediately striking. The aroma opens with floral notes such as elderflower and acacia, followed by fresh herbs and ripe fruit. On the palate, the wine is crisp and lively, yet round and layered due to the oak aging. The finish is fresh, precise, and lingers long.

What truly makes this wine special is that it develops further with some aging. While it's impressive when young, it becomes even more elegant and complex after a few years.
