High reputation for Paul Cluver

In Elgin, one of South Africa's coolest regions, lies the Paul Cluver Winery. At a considerable altitude, the vineyards enjoy the perfect climate right on the coast. Thanks to the surrounding trees, the vineyards remain protected, resulting in wines with finesse and freshness. The estate was originally used for apple orchards, but soil samples taken in the 1980s revealed that the soil was perfect for viticulture. It is a true family business, which benefits the wines. This is precisely why the wines are so successful and why the company has such a high reputation. Each family member contributes their own personality and respect for nature. This has made the estate what it is today, resulting in beautiful red and white wines. The Riesling grapes come from vines between 13 and 35 years old. To remove all traces of rot, a second sorting takes place in the cellar after harvest. The grapes are pressed after approval, and fermentation follows. The grapes from different blocks on the estate are fermented separately in large, oval oak barrels. Fermentation is stopped on a portion of the wine and later blended back in. This gives the wine its natural sweetness. The rest is fermented dry to add some complexity.

The Village Riesling emerges with a bright color in the glass. The aromas are expressive, with notes of fruit and citrus blossom. On the palate, it offers a delicate flavor with lime notes and a pleasant texture. A beautiful interplay of fruit and pleasant acidity. A restrained wine with beautiful Riesling notes and a pleasant minerality. Thanks to the shale-rich soils, the wine has acquired great complexity and structure.
