We begin our journey in Cape Town. Walking through the streets of Cape Town, it's hard to imagine that exquisite wines are being produced just a few dozen kilometers to the east. You hop in the car and quickly leave the hustle and bustle of Cape Town behind. You quickly find yourself in a breathtaking setting. On the way to authentic Stellenbosch, you'll pass numerous impressive wineries. Warwick Estate is also located here. From the heart of South Africa's most beautiful wine region, Warwick Estate has been crafting the most wonderful wines for decades.
Warwick's South African wines
Warwick Estate is located in a centuries-old farmhouse. Until the early 20th century, this farm was known locally as Goed Succes (Good Success). After the Boer War in South Africa, Colonel Alexander Gordon purchased this farm with the intention of producing wine. During the Boer War, he was Colonel of the Warwickshire Regiment. The choice of the name Warwick was therefore an easy one.

For over half a century, wine was produced on a small scale. However, over time, the winery fell into disrepair. In the early 1960s, Norma and Stan Ratcliffe decided to purchase the winery. Norma completed a wine education, and they enthusiastically began working in the vineyards. Thanks to their unwavering dedication, Warwick grew dramatically, both in quality and quantity. Many of Warwick's wines, such as the Warwick Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc, are still considered benchmarks in South African viticulture today.
The best wine is Warwick Trilogy
When the new cellar opened in the 1980s, Warwick Estate's fortunes grew rapidly. Norma Rattcliffe planted Cabernet Sauvignon in the Stellenbosch vineyards, making them a popular choice among South African wine enthusiasts. Their big breakthrough came with the production of the Warwick Trilogy. This Bordeaux blend remains the pinnacle of South African wines to this day.
The Warwick wine from South Africa
Besides local favorites like Pinotage, Warwick Estate has planted many international vines. It's clear that the Rattcliffe couple has drawn significant inspiration from French viticulture, as evidenced by the Cabernet Sauvignon, which remains a key ingredient for the winery. However, the beloved Chardonnay is also gradually gaining ground. The Warwick The First Lady Unoaked Chardonnay is a favorite of many. However, those who truly appreciate robust, creamy Chardonnay will enjoy a glass of Warwick White Lady Chardonnay.
