Description

Tinwood Rosé 2021 is an English sparkling rosé from West Sussex, made at Tinwood Estate in Halnaker near Chichester. This single estate sparkling wine comes entirely from the family's own estate at the foot of the South Downs and is dominated by Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. With its salmon pink colour, fine bubbles, and fresh red fruit style, this 2021 vintage perfectly demonstrates why English sparkling wine receives so much attention.

Tinwood Estate is located in West Sussex, a short distance from the south coast of England.

• Location / Origin: The vineyards are located in Halnaker, near Chichester, on the edge of the South Downs National Park. This location gives the wine a cool English character with great freshness and refinement.

• Vineyard: Tinwood operates as a single estate, with all grapes coming from their own family estate. This ensures that the house style remains clearly recognisable in every vintage.

• Climate & influences: The farm is about 3 miles from the sea. This coastal influence helps the grapes ripen slowly and retain their fresh acidity.

• Soil: The topsoil consists of loam, gravel, and flint, with chalk at various depths. This combination provides drainage, tension, and a fresh, chalky undertone.

• Vineyard & harvest: The grapes are harvested by hand. This aligns with the precise selection required for sparkling wine with fine mousse and pure fruit.

Tinwood Rosé 2021 is made using the traditional method for sparkling wine.

• Fermentation: What is the traditional method? It is the process where the second fermentation takes place in the bottle, giving the wine its fine bubbles and extra refinement.

• Dosage: The dosage is 9.2 g/l. This provides just enough roundness to support the red fruit, while keeping the wine fresh and lively.

• Technical tension: With 6.5 g/l total acidity and a pH of 3.27, this rosé has a fresh, energetic base. This ensures balance between fruit, mousse, and drinkability.

• Alcohol percentage: At 12% alcohol, Tinwood Rosé 2021 remains elegant and smooth, fitting the light, fresh style of English sparkling wine.

The blend is clearly supported by Tinwood's two red grape varieties.

• 63% Pinot Noir – West Sussex: Pinot Noir gives this rosé its raspberry, strawberry, structure, and classic red fruit expression.

• 28% Pinot Meunier – West Sussex: Pinot Meunier brings extra juiciness, roundness, and direct fruit to the blend.

• 9% Chardonnay – West Sussex: Chardonnay adds freshness, finesse, and extra tension to the finish.

More about Tinwood Estate

Tinwood Estate was founded in 2007 by Art Tukker, after the family farm transitioned from iceberg lettuce to viticulture. The Tukker family has owned the farm since 1985 and developed Tinwood into a single estate winery with over 110 acres of classic sparkling wine grape varieties. Today, everything revolves around English sparkling wine from Sussex, made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, with a clear focus on vineyard experience, family roots, and modern English wine quality.
