A powerful red wine for a good cause! The Springfield Thunderchild is a classic red wine blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. With this wine, you support Die Herberg, an orphanage and children's shelter in Robertson. The best part is that all the grapes used are grown at the orphanage, and all proceeds go to the children.
A wine for a good cause
In 1918, in the aftermath of the influenza epidemic, an orphanage, Die Herberg, was built by the Robertson community for the children who were left orphaned and destitute. In 2003, the same community planted a five-hectare vineyard on the orphanage grounds. All the planting material, soil preparation, and irrigation were donated. This blend is produced free of charge by sympathetic wineries and sold for the benefit of the children, who are no longer all orphans, but primarily from broken homes. 100% of the grapes for this blend are grown on the orphanage grounds, and 100% of the profits are donated to the children. Only truly controlled costs are reimbursed. Springfield, a traditional winery that produces this wine, is committed to keeping its wine production and operations as natural as possible. Winemaker Abrie Bruwers is passionate about Springfield wines, bringing immense expertise and minimal intervention to the winery's production—a principle that has firmly established Springfield's reputation as a renowned producer of world-class wines. Regularly recognized with prestigious awards and accolades internationally, Springfield's wines have become an integral part of the wine world. What does the Springfield Thunderchild taste like?
The blend of three different grapes is fermented using open-fermentation yeasts and then aged for twelve months in French oak. The result is a full-bodied, robust wine with lovely aromas of blackcurrant and cherry, along with a hint of vanilla and tobacco. The palate is full and robust with lovely notes of black fruit, light wood, chocolate, and spice. This Springfield Thunderchild also has a long finish. All in all, delicious!Product details
