Unfortunately, due to a somewhat turbulent history, they've always lagged behind Italy and France. However, they've been the undisputed number three for decades, and rightfully so. Their wines are sublime, and the vineyards are truly breathtaking.

The Navarra wines of Pago de Cirsus

We landed in perhaps Spain's most beautiful wine region, Navarra. This wine region is synonymous with exquisite wines where robustness and complexity take center stage. Amidst the dazzling vineyards, you'll find the brand-new bodega of the Pago de Cirsus winery. This winery was completely renovated and modernized in 2002 with modern techniques. Owner Inaki Nunez has also hired a new winemaker. This new winemaker is none other than Jean Mars Sauboua, who learned the tricks of the trade at the iconic Château Haut Brion winery.

The red wines of Pago de Cirsus

Pago de Cirsus is a true Navarra house. However, in addition to red wines, they also produce excellent whites. However, it remains the red wines from Navarra that earn Pago de Cirsus the most recognition. Unique to Pago de Cirsus's wines is that, in addition to the traditional, indigenous grape varieties, they also use international all-rounders like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This creates a perfect blend of classic and modern, a true paradise for your taste buds.

Why buy Pago de Cirsus wine?

Our personal favorite is perhaps the Pago de Cirsus Oak Aged, a superb combination of modern Merlot with powerful Shiraz and Tempranillo. However, we're also incredibly fond of the white varieties of Pago de Cirsus. The one that truly deserves the top spot on the podium is the Pago de Cirsus Chardonnay Barrel Fermented. A beautiful oak-aged Chardonnay wine, where robustness, reddishness, and the temperament of Spain beautifully blend.
