Italian varietal wines from Mezzacorona

The renowned Trentino winery Mezzacorona is one of the largest wine producers in Italy. For over 100 years, the cellar has supplied millions of wine drinkers worldwide with Italian varietal wines. But recently, those responsible have shifted their focus from quantity to quality. In 2008, Gambero Rosso confirmed to Trentino winemakers that they had already successfully raised their quality level. The Castel Firmian grape varietal line is a particularly successful expression of this development. It is named after a castle perched high above the Piana Rotaliana vineyards. The wines made from select grapes are characterized by great elegance, distinctive aromas, and impressive harmony. A distinctive red wine made from the Lagrein varietal, aged for 6 to 8 months in oak barrels. The grapes are sourced exclusively from our own DOC vineyards and vinified in one of the region's most modern wineries. In addition to popular international grape varieties—some of which have been native to Trentino for over 100 years—the region's specialties are also cultivated. These include both the expressive Lagrein and the excellent Teroldego, Trentino's great classic.

The velvety bouquet of Castel Firmian Lagrein

The wine is ruby red with an intense and velvety bouquet. It has an intense nose with aromas of blackcurrant, wild berry, eucalyptus, and licorice. Dark chocolate and graphite are on the palate, with a spicy character thanks to the short oak aging. Well-structured, elegant, and full-bodied with velvety tannins. Pair the dark, intense flavors of this wine with similarly intense dishes. Think, for example, of a sweeter rendang, aged cow's milk cheeses, and dark meat such as wild duck or venison.
