The Rheingau wines from Germany

German wines are experiencing a genuine revival. Twenty years ago, German wines were associated solely with sweet, uninspiring whites. "Plenty" was the key word. And that's a shame, because Germany has so much to offer. All the conditions are there for good wine: a good climate and a fertile terroir. This was already noticed in the mid-1930s by the Eser family, who established a winery of the same name in the Rheingau.

The wines of Eser

Three generations later, wine is still produced on the Eser family estate. Brothers Christophe and Thomas Eser still make wine on the banks of the Rhine, just a stone's throw west of the metropolis of Frankfurt am Main. For 85 years, the Eser winery has become a true pioneer in the Rheingau. Thanks to their expertise, passed down through generations, the German wines of this region have received a real boost.

Eser's vineyards are situated in prime locations along the banks of the Rhine, where the Rhine and Main rivers intersect. Their vineyards cover an impressive 11 hectares, nestled on steep slopes. The main ingredient in Eser's vineyards is the German pride, Riesling, in which they have become true specialists. A full 85% of the grape varieties planted are this noble grape. The location is perfect; winters are cold, but summers are warm and dry. The area is also relatively wind-exposed, allowing Riesling to flourish.
