What a magnificent wine, you don't see that often. This Domaine de la Janasse Viognier is so well-balanced. Janasse is a well-known winery, known for their full-bodied, intense wines with many subtle notes. The production is in the hands of Domaine de la Janasse under the direction of Aimé Sabon.

The highest quality wines from Domaine de la Janasse

Aimé Sabon, his son Christophe, and his daughter Isabelle are exceptionally talented winemakers who are completely focused on the highest possible quality. Their wines are therefore miles apart from what is often called "Côtes du Rhône" or "Châteauneuf-du-Pape." Consequently, they regularly receive high to very high ratings from various wine critics, including Robert Parker. Today, this company is one of the absolute leaders in this region, and its wines are among the best in their respective classes in international comparisons. Viognier is one of the flagship vines of the Rhône and is grown almost exclusively in this wine region by French winemakers. The grape had almost completely disappeared after the phylloxera crisis at the end of the 19th century – by 1968, only 14 hectares of Viognier were planted in France. When Rhône wines experienced a renaissance in the mid-1980s, Viognier also benefited. Today, the population in France has returned to over 6,000 hectares. In the early 1990s, demand for Viognier began to surge. This grape variety is exceptionally distinctive, but also has a rarity value.

The vinification of the Domaine de la Janasse Viognier

After pneumatic pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation follows. After fermentation, the wine is aged for six months "sur lie" in oak barrels (25 percent new wood). This Domaine de la Janasse Viognier is traditionally made and excels with its combination of power and finesse. The aroma of this Domaine de la Janasse has hints of honey, apricot, and peach. The palate is creamy with notes of exotic fruit and a touch of marzipan.
