De Grendel, the name of this magnificent winery, is, of course, Dutch. At the time, the winery was the key to the Cape's highly fertile agricultural hinterland, home to Durbanville and Stellenbosch. De Grendel's vineyards are situated on 350-meter slopes and are influenced by the cool air from the Atlantic Ocean. This results in a long and temperate season. De Grendel is also very conscious of preserving the ecosystem. For example, De Grendel's vineyards, the estate, and all transport activities are certified as fully CO2-neutral. The winery is a member of the list of historic farms in South Africa. The first, and therefore oldest, evidence of this dates back to 1720. Furthermore, the winery has an extensive family history. De Grendel was purchased by the Graaff family in the late 19th century. David Graaff's grandfather was looking for stables for his Arabian thoroughbreds and came across the land on which De Grendel stands. Today, De Grendel wines are produced by a highly talented female winemaker who works closely with the cellar master. And not entirely without success, because what top-notch wines De Grendel is! The wines are available in various varietals, including the flagship De Grendel Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc, as well as Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Op die Berg Chardonnay, and Op die Berg Pinot Noir.
