Caliterra's vineyards are primarily located in the Colchagua Valley, an area 130 kilometers south of the capital, Santiago. This region is considered one of Chile's finest wine regions. In some years, with the winemaker's explicit permission, a tiny amount of Malbec is added to Caliterra Reserva Merlot to give the red wine a slightly more body. The Merlot grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks to ensure the Merlot retains its fresh character. Then, 30 percent of the juice is aged for seven to nine months in French oak for the second or third time. This gives the Caliterra Reserva Merlot a little more depth without creating an overly woody flavor. An extremely complex process, but thanks to the skillful work of Caliterra's winemaker, the result is magnificent.
