Baron Fuenté was founded in 1967 by Gabriel Baron and his Spanish wife, Dolores Fuentes. At that time, they started with just one hectare of vineyards, a gift from Gabriel's father in honor of their wedding. Today, the Champagne house owns fifty hectares of vineyards. The vineyards are located in the commune of Charly-sur-Marne and occupy the region's finest plots, nestled on the slopes overlooking the Marne River. The vineyards are planted with the traditional grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay. The Champagne Baron Fuenté Esprit Grand Cru is composed of 55 percent Chardonnay and 45 percent Pinot Noir. Quality is always paramount at this Champagne house. Only the finest grapes, and therefore the finest juice, are good enough to bear the Baron Fuente label. The expertise acquired over the years has contributed to this quality. In addition to their consistent growth, they win several awards annually. These are champagnes you absolutely must try.
This Grand Cru is aged for a long time in the Fuente Esprit cellars, for approximately five years. Over this long period, it develops a unique character: full-bodied, robust, complex, and very ripe. The aroma reveals a beautiful bouquet of apple, pear, peach, and hints of flowers. A wine with a pale yellow hue, thin and lively bubbles. The nose is powerful and intelligent, with floral notes and fruity hints. The palate is smooth and balanced, very pure. An ideal champagne for a gourmet meal, such as scallops Saint-Jacques with champagne mousseline, duck with mushrooms, or apple tart.
