Buy or order Anselmo Mendes wine

Portuguese wines are more popular than ever. Often neglected in European viticulture, Portugal is today showing what it has to offer. Unfortunately, Portugal's winemaking got off to a rocky start. While it has existed for centuries, it was very small-scale. It wasn't until it joined the European Union in 1986 and began applying for agricultural subsidies that Portuguese winemaking boomed. This gave talents like Anselmo Mendes the opportunity to develop wine. It's no wonder, then, that Anselmo Mendes, along with his eponymous winery, has given Portuguese winemaking a significant boost.

The Anselmo Mendes wines from Portugal

A winery born from pure passion. A love for the craft. Care for the grapes. Pure character. We have plenty of superlatives to describe Portugal's most talented winemaker: Anselmo Mendes. It's no wonder, then, that a man with such an impressive track record would name a winery after himself: Anselmo Mendes.

This gentleman knows the country like the back of his hand. He understands the power of Portugal, its indigenous grapes, and its cultures. He also has experience making wine in the Azores and in South America, including Argentina. A true all-rounder who knows what he does best.

The vineyards of Anselmo Mendes

Anselmo Mendes began winemaking in its current form in the late 1990s. He has a strong preference for local grape varieties, so he began planting the Alvarinho grape. He cultivated this grape in the far north of Portugal, near the Spanish border. The slightly cooler climate produced delicious aromatic wines, and this success left him wanting more.

Besides Alvarinho, Anselmo Mendes also has extensive knowledge of other indigenous grape varieties. They are unknown abroad but incredibly popular domestically. Fortunately, more and more Europeans are discovering the power of Portuguese wines. That's precisely why Anselmo Mendes has also given grapes like Avesso, Loureiro, and Cainho a place in his vineyards.

What is the best wine from Portugal?

That Alvarinho remains Anselmo Mendes' favorite grape is clearly reflected in his product range. Many beautiful and impressive wines feature this beloved grape. Anselmo Mendes has several crown jewels in its lineup. How about Anselmo Mendes Espressoes Alvarinho? Or the Anselmo Mendes Muros de Melgaco Alvarinho. The latter comes in a striking bottle, making enjoying this wine a true celebration.
