Four generations ago, the Vignobles Vellas winery began producing wines. Today, Nicolas Vellas is at the helm. The tradition has been passed down from generation to generation, and that is perhaps the strength of this winery. The most important family property is the Mas du Pont estate. This is the centre of all activity. It is located in the towns of Teyran and Crès, near Montpellier, between Pic St Loup and the Mediterranean Sea. Today, Nicolas Vellas is at the helm, passionate about wine and the Languedoc region. He strives for excellence, authenticity, and innovation. This forms a perfect foundation for making very high-quality wines. Vignobles Vellas has 120 hectares of vineyards, spread over five wine estates. The bottles are characterised by striking labels.
Full and powerful bunches are hand-harvested and strictly selected, after which they mature in oak barrels in the cellars of Vignobles Vellas. The maturation period is long, as this gives the wine strength and suppleness, according to winemaker Nicolas Vellas. This is also clearly noticeable in the aroma, which offers notes of peach, roasted nuts, vanilla, apricots, and a hint of passion fruit. The taste is round and deliciously rich on the palate, as a top Chardonnay should be. The flavour features recurring fruits such as peach, apricots, red apple, and tropical fruit, but also notes of vanilla pods, toast, and roasted nuts. What a wine, and it truly lives up to its name as a real Cuvée Prestige.
