Château de Tracy Pouilly-Fumé 2023 is a dry white Loire wine made from Sauvignon Blanc, sourced from old vines on the slopes above the Loire. This vintage stands out for its pure, mineral style, with grapes that experienced hardly any stress during the growing season and therefore developed a rich aromatic complexity. The combination of flint, Kimmeridgian marl, limestone, and 40 to 70-year-old vines gives this Pouilly-Fumé its tension, texture, and delicate salinity.
Château de Tracy is located in Tracy-sur-Loire, within the Pouilly-Fumé appellation in the Centre-Loire.
• Location / Origin: The vineyards are situated on slopes above the Loire. This location gives Sauvignon Blanc a fresh, precise base with great tension and a clear Loire character.
• Exposure: The plots have a southwest exposure. This allows the grapes to receive enough sun to ripen, while the location on the Loire helps to maintain freshness and aromatic finesse.
• Soil: The soil consists of flint, Kimmeridgian marl, and limestone. Limestone and marl provide volume and texture, while flint contributes depth, minerality, and a salty impression.
• Vineyard & Age: The grapes are selected from old vines averaging 40 to 70 years old. This age contributes to concentration, depth, and a more layered expression of Sauvignon Blanc.
• Viticulture: The vineyard is managed biodynamically, with great attention to the balance between soil, vine, and ecosystem.
This Pouilly-Fumé is made entirely from Sauvignon Blanc.
• Sauvignon Blanc – Pouilly-Fumé: Sauvignon Blanc gives this wine its citrus, grapefruit, white fruit notes, herbal tension, and fresh acidity. What does Fumé mean? Fumé here refers to the smoky, flinty note that Pouilly-Fumé can acquire on the right soils, especially when Sauvignon Blanc is grown on flint and calcareous layers.
The vinification aims for purity, freshness, and the preservation of Pouilly-Fumé's mineral signature.
• Vintage & Harvest: 2023 did not experience extreme heat or drought, with sufficient water reserves after a cold and wet winter. As a result, the grapes could ripen fresh, healthy, and uniformly, with a clear mineral and salty expression.
• Fermentation: The wine is vinified in concrete and stainless steel. Stainless steel preserves the pure Sauvignon Blanc aromas, while concrete can add extra texture and calm to the wine.
• Analysis & Structure: With 13.09% alcohol, 4.84 g/l acidity, and 0.85 g/l residual sugar, this Pouilly-Fumé remains crisp, fresh, and precise. This combination supports its citrus, minerality, and gastronomic length.
