From vineyard to bottle

The origin, grapes and craftsmanship behind this wine.

Allendorf Jesuitengarten Riesling Großes Gewächs is a top-quality dry Riesling from an officially classified Großes Lage vineyard in the Rheingau. What does Großes Gewächs mean in German wine? This is the highest dry classification within the VDP structure and may only be sourced from a recognized top vineyard with strictly controlled yields and quality standards. The Jesuitengarten is known as a very warm location where the grapes ripen early, resulting in power, concentration, and remarkable aging potential.

At 13.13% alcohol, this Riesling combines intensity with precision and a pronounced acidity.

The Jesuitengarten is located in the Rheingau, near the Rhine, where the river climate plays an important role in the ripening process.

  • Großes Lage : officially recognised top vineyard within the VDP classification.

  • Very warm location : ensures early ripening and full aromatic development.

  • 35–50 year old vines : produce concentrated grapes with depth.

  • Influence of the Rhine : promotes fruit expression and contributes to mineral tension.

The combination of warmth and river influence gives both ripe fruit and a fresh structure.

The vinification focuses on structure and extra depth in the wine.

  • 50% of the must macerated : provides extra structure and extraction.

  • 10% whole bunches added during fermentation : increases body and complexity.

  • Dry style : emphasis on tension and precision.

  • Screw cap : preserves freshness and aromatic purity.

  • Vegan certified : produced without animal fining agents.

This method gives the wine its clear focus and longevity.

Riesling – Jesuitengarten, Rheingau
Riesling is known for its high natural acidity and pronounced terroir expression, which in a Großes Gewächs results in complexity and great ageing potential.

Weingut Allendorf was founded in 1773 by Philipp Anton Allendorf and remains family-owned. With approximately 75 hectares, it is the largest family winery in the Rheingau. The wines are exported worldwide and produced according to a clear quality philosophy, focusing on its own vineyards and terroir expression.
