Benguela Cove's unique and rare location on the ocean's edge on South Africa's southern coast produces wines of premium quality and unmistakable character. The Lighthouse Collection was created to reflect all the facets the cool climate has to offer. They are more accessible and of exceptionally high quality.

The Benguela Cove Vineyards

Benguela Cove is located in the Walker Bay sub-region, just an hour's drive from Cape Town International Airport. Situated on the edge of the Bot River Lagoon, the area teems with birdlife and natural flora and fauna, with the Atlantic Ocean on the horizon. The estate, which comprises 70 hectares of vines, was purchased in 2013 by entrepreneur Penny Streeter. The estate has been recognized for its craftsmanship, led by experienced cellar master Johann Fourie. The grapes are harvested in the cool of the morning. They are pressed slowly and carefully at a cool, controlled temperature and then left to rest on the skins for 6 hours to achieve the desired acidity. The pure juice is then aged for another 48 hours, initially fermenting at a controlled temperature of 16-18 degrees Celsius and at the end of fermentation at 12-13 degrees Celsius to preserve the delicious fruit nuances in the wine. The wine is aged exclusively in steel tanks and, after fermentation is complete, is left on the lees for a further 60 days, which are stirred once a week (batonnage) to impart a more pleasant mouthfeel and beautiful complexity.

The seductive aromas of cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc

The Benguela Cove Lighthouse Collection Sauvignon Blanc has an enticing aroma of fine citrus and stone fruit, beautifully complemented by subtle hints of delicate pears and fragrant flowers. These aromas are also evident in the palate, combining with a wonderful minerality and length. It's a classic cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc!
