This Reserve series from Domaine Bousquet is fuller and creamier than its younger brother. With this wine, winemaker Jean Bousquet aims to create a lightly oaked Chardonnay while preserving the freshness of the Chardonnay grape. The vineyard for this Chardonnay is also located in the Tupungato Uco Valley in Mendoza. However, the vines are much older and provide the winemaker with more powerful and fuller bunches. At an altitude of four thousand feet, the Chardonnay vineyard is situated in the strong Argentinian sun. But that's no problem for the vines, as they now have deep roots that can absorb plenty of moisture from the chalky soil. Jean Bousquet is delighted with his old vineyard, which, after all the effort in the vineyard, is giving him exactly what he needs.

Wood aging for the Bousquet Reserve Chardonnay

Thanks to the perfect climate, with abundant sunshine and the perfect freshness provided by the wind and nighttime temperatures, the Chardonnay grapes ripen beautifully. At peak ripeness, they are rigorously selected to obtain only the finest bunches. They are harvested entirely by hand and transported to the press in small crates. Upon arrival, Jean Bousquet carefully oversees the press, after which the golden-yellow juice is collected in wooden barrels. Not the entire wine, but fifty percent of this Chardonnay is aged in oak barrels. This makes it powerful and highly refined in both aroma and flavor.

The aroma and taste of the Bousquet Chardonnay Reserve

Straw yellow in color with a lime tint. On the nose, this Chardonnay Reserve has a particularly good aromatic intensity of tropical fruits, pear, coconut, and vanilla with hints of citrus and floral notes. On the palate, this Bousquet Chardonnay Reserve has hints of green apple and pear with soft spicy notes. The silky smooth palate has sufficient thickness and a refreshing acidity. The oak is well integrated.
