From vineyard to bottle

The origin, grapes and craftsmanship behind this wine.

The grapes for this wine are harvested from 33-year-old bush vineyards in the Paarl region. These vineyards have deep, rich soils, which are beneficial for grape growth. Cinsault is naturally drought-tolerant and therefore thrives in dry climates. This results in elegant wines with character. Interestingly, Cinsault also played a significant role in the creation of the Pinotage varietal, known locally as Hermitage.

Perdeberg Cellar is a leading winery located in the Paarl region of South Africa, with a rich history dating back to 1941. Over the years, the winery has earned a reputation for its unwavering commitment to excellence and the production of wines of impeccable quality. A distinctive feature of Perdeberg Cellar is its vineyards with diverse microclimates and a variety of soil types. This diversity offers winemakers a unique opportunity to cultivate grapes that thrive in their specific environments. The Cinsault grapes are harvested entirely by hand in the early morning, when temperatures are still cool. After destemming, the grapes are left to rest on the skins for several hours, during which the juice is extracted. Only the free-run juice is used for the wine, and care is taken to ensure its clarity before fermentation begins. This ensures that only the pure, concentrated juice of the grapes is used, resulting in wines with intense fruity flavors.

This wine presents itself with a bright red color, which is immediately inviting. Upon smelling it, a fragrant and seductive blend of fresh red berries, dark fruit, and subtle spices emerges. The nose is captivated by the vibrant aromas that rise from the glass. The mouthfeel is harmonious and balanced. The palate is dominated by the juicy sweetness of red fruits, which emerges clearly and tantalizes the taste buds. The subtle spicy notes add an extra dimension to the wine, creating an intriguing interplay of fruit and spices.
