Chile's most beautiful and famous grape, superbly executed by the mighty Caliterra. A beautiful image, and one we're secretly big fans of. Caliterra has left an impressive mark on Chilean winemaking in its relatively short history. It was founded in 1989 by Eduard Chadwick, from the same family as the renowned Errazuriz. Later, they partnered with the Californian star Robert Mondavi Wines. During this time, Caliterra has grown into one of Chile's finest and most famous wineries.

The pride of Chile

The terroir and climate are well-suited to many grape varieties. All the well-known international varieties, such as Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, are therefore widely planted. However, Chile, as a wine country, holds another special trump card: Carmenere. This grape variety, originally from France, was wiped out in Europe by phylloxera. However, Chile's climate is exceptionally well-suited to this grape. While yields are lower than those of its more common cousins, it can produce exceptionally good wines. Proof of this is the Caliterra Reserva Carmenere, sourced from grapes grown in the Colchagua Valley, north of the capital, Santiago.

Why buy Caliterra Reserva Carmenere

This red wine from Caliterra is one of the winery's most popular. Why? Because Caliterra Reserva Carmenere is universally acclaimed. After the Carmenere grapes are harvested, 30% of the juice is lightly aged in oak. This gives Caliterra Reserva Carmenere a touch more depth and complexity, without ever becoming overpowering. The aromas include a harmonious palette of chocolate, plums, and toffee, along with hints of black pepper and spice, precisely what Carmenere is known for. On the palate, Caliterra Reserva Carmenere is incredibly soft, almost velvety. It's like falling into a down comforter. With the right amount of fruit and oak, the result is a wonderfully balanced red wine.
