Vintage Report
The 2021 vintage in Catalonia achieved an excellent score of 92 points. However, it was an inconsistent year, with varying results even among the best wines.
The name of this Cava house, Torre del Gall, is relatively new, but its history is not. Until a few years ago, the winery and its vineyards were better known for Champagnes such as Moet & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, and Krug, owned by the LVMH group. The LVMH group invested heavily in the vineyards and a modern winery. The Cavas were truly outstanding, but the group nevertheless sold the Cava house to focus entirely on their core business: Champagne. Now we can enjoy this true craftsmanship, and it's palatable in every way. Torre del Gall has a total of 9,000 square meters of cellars where the bottles are aged. Cavas are made in the same way as Champagne.
The old vineyard of Torre del Gall
Traditions are highly valued at Torre del Gall, and therefore they use local grape varieties such as Macabeu, Xarello, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir—the latter two, of course, at the initiative of the French owners, who are, not surprisingly, Champagne producers. In total, the Cava house has 63 hectares of vineyards, divided over two large plots, 23 hectares of which are located directly adjacent to the winery. This vineyard, the Torre del Gall Estate, is located in the village of Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues, right near Vilafranca del Penedes. The grapes are harvested by hand in the early morning to protect the grapes from the transport to Torre del Gall.Full and very powerful this Torre del Gall Cava Brut Reserva
This Torre del Gall Cava is made using the traditional method. In short, it's made the same way Champagne is made, though it's expensive, but it's the best for the final result. Well, we can say that this Torre del Gall Cava more than succeeded. The aroma is a beautiful bouquet with notes of almonds, yellow fruit, peach, roses, and a slightly exotic character. The mousse (bubble) is very soft, with truly fine bubbles. Not too dry, but just perfect, with lovely nuances of pear, apple, and hints of nuts and toast. This Torre del Gall Brut Reserva is a truly delicious cava. The finish is smooth and refined! Top class!Product details
