Aussières Selection Rosé Lafite Rothschild is a refined rosé from the AOC Corbières, hailing from the Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite estate in Southern France. The wine is made from Grenache Noir and Syrah, with a focus on the free-run juice for extra finesse and an elegant, light color. Due to a small portion fermented in new oak and 4 months of aging on the lees, this rosé gains more structure, creaminess, and depth than one might expect from many fresh rosés.
This rosé comes from AOC Corbières, in Languedoc Roussillon.
Location / Origin: The estate is situated in the rugged hills just behind the Mediterranean coast near Narbonne. This location combines Mediterranean ripeness with fresh influences from the surroundings.
Appellation: AOC Corbières is an appellation in Southern France where Grenache Noir and Syrah are widely used for characterful rosé and red wines.
Plot selection: Specific plots are selected for this rosé. The vines are cared for using an organic viticulture approach, focused on finesse, complexity, and balance.
Climate & Influences: The cooler location of Aussières helps Grenache Noir ripen more slowly. As a result, the grape develops more delicate fruit aromas and the wine retains an elegant structure.
The vinification is carefully structured to combine freshness, tension, and extra refinement.
Pressing & Selection: The grapes are cold-pressed immediately upon arrival. The free-run juice is separated from the press juice, and only the best batches are used for the final blend.
Fermentation: 12% of the wine is fermented in new oak barrels, while the rest is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The stainless steel preserves the fresh fruit expression, while the wood provides subtle depth and extra complexity.
Aging / Sur lie: The wine ages for 4 months on fine lees in stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels, with regular bâtonnage. What is bâtonnage? It is the careful stirring of the fine yeast cells, which gives the wine more texture, roundness, and length.
Alcohol percentage: With 13% alcohol, this rosé has enough body to beautifully support the subtle oak influence and creamy texture.
This Corbières rosé combines Grenache Noir with Syrah.
80% Grenache Noir – AOC Corbières: Grenache Noir forms the basis of the blend and provides delicate fruit aromas, a soft structure, and a silky mouthfeel.
20% Syrah – AOC Corbières: Syrah adds freshness, tension, and extra balance, allowing the wine to maintain its combination of generosity and lively energy.
