The 2023 vintage for dry Portuguese wines received an excellent score of 91 points. The wines are currently characterized as youthful and tannic, indicating good aging potential.

A stunning wine from Terra d'Alter. In every sip, you taste the Alentejo, the region where Terra d'Alter has its vineyards. This region has traditionally been known for its red wines, and this example of craftsmanship proves it once again. Once again, a blend of various grapes: Trincadeira, Aragonez, and Syrah. Syrah will make even the most novice wine drinker fall in love. However, the two indigenous grape varieties are certainly no strangers either. Trincadeira is one of the most widely planted grape varieties in Portugal. It produces full-bodied, robust, and fleshy wines. Aragonez is better known by its other name: Tempranillo. In Spain, it produces characterful wines with a pleasant peppery note.

Best winemaker in Portugal

The Terra d'Alter red is vinified using a modern method by the Terra d'Alter winery in the Alentejo wine region. This is a vast area in southern Portugal. The grapes planted are predominantly Portuguese, harvested at peak ripeness. The entire vinification process is overseen by Peter Bright, a winemaker originally from Australia who has made wine in South Africa, South America, and his native Portugal. He has lived and worked in Portugal for many years, and in 1992, Peter was named Red Wine Maker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge. His wines truly live up to this title.

If you're not yet familiar with Portuguese wines, this Terra d Alter blend will be your new favorite. Aromas of ripe red fruit like berries, strawberries, and raspberries. But plums also pamper your palate and nose. The spice is clearly present, thanks in part to the help of Aragonez and Syrah. A spirited wine that will definitely become one of your favorites.
