Vintage Report
The 2022 vintage for Sangiovese in Italy received an excellent score of 92 points on the vintage charts. The wines from this year are characterized as powerful and youthful with clearly present tannins.
It's hard to get more Italian than this red wine made from Sangiovese. It's no wonder this blue grape is the most widely planted in the vineyards of this Southern European country. Naturally, in the "larger" regions like Sicily, Veneto, Tuscany, and Puglia. But Italy has so much more to offer than the conventional wine regions. Consider Abruzzo, located in the central part of the "boot." Normally the home of Montepulciano, but thanks to the efforts of Ponte Levatoio, now also home to many other Italian grape varieties.
The wines of Ponte Levatoio
For a long time, Abruzzo wines were the underdog of Italian wines. People preferred established names and established brands. These days, the mostly small winegrowers of Abruzzo have worked incredibly hard, and everyone who drinks a glass of wine knows this region. However, it's not just small winegrowers who populate Abruzzo. The Ponte Levatoio winery is living proof. With a whopping 2,700 hectares of vineyards, we're dealing with a major player here. We're incredibly happy with this winery, because they clearly showcase the versatile power of Abruzzo to many wine drinkers.Buy Ponte Levatoio Sangiovese wine
We love the Sangiovese grape and can't wait to discover the Ponte Levatoio variety. Sangiovese is truly the foundation of Italian viticulture, and that's quite remarkable. Approximately 560 different grape varieties are planted in Italian vineyards. Of all the grapes planted, almost 1 in 8 is Sangiovese—that's truly remarkable. You'll find it literally everywhere. It's less common in Abruzzo, but no less successful. This Ponte Levatoio Sangiovese is the epitome of flavor. Smooth yet with just the right amount of fruitiness. A hint of Italian herbs tickles your nose. The palate is a tsunami of cedarwood, sultry vanilla, fragrant strawberries, and dark blackcurrant fruit.Product details
