Vintage Report
According to the Robert Parker Vintage Chart, the Languedoc region achieved an excellent score of 94 points in 2023. This indicates an exceptionally good vintage with wines that are approachable early.
Nicolas and Miren de Logeril own six wineries in various districts of southern France. In total, they have 300 hectares of vineyards at their disposal, the foundation for their wide range of quality wines. Respect for the terroir is essential, and sustainable farming allows the grapes to optimally enjoy everything the French hills have to offer. The Merlot grape is given ample time to develop its characteristics, and ultimately, this fantastic bottle of Merlot Les Terrasses is released.
French Family Business Comtes de Lorgeril
Maison Lorgeril, a family-owned winery, was founded in 1620 in the south of France, between the Rhône Valley and the Pyrenees. Since 1987, Nicolas de Lorgeril, from a tenth-generation family of winemakers, and his wife, Miren de Saint Chamas, have expanded their estate beyond Château de Pennautier, the family's historic birthplace. Passionate about winemaking, they have selected the finest terroirs in the Languedoc and Roussillon regions (with chalky, brown and black slate, gneiss, and sandstone soils) at altitudes of 200 to 400 meters above sea level to mitigate the Mediterranean heat and sun, allowing for slow, organic ripening of the grapes and the development of soft and supple aromas. The vinification process of Merlot Les Terrasses
The wines are characterized by the Mediterranean climate with long, hot, and very dry summers and relatively mild winters. The vines are grown at high altitudes where the weather is slightly cooler, allowing for the production of fresh and elegant wines. At optimal ripeness, the grapes are carefully harvested. Once arrived at the winery, the grape bunches are destemmed, and traditional vinification follows. Cold maceration lasts approximately 7 to 10 days, followed by fermentation for about 3 weeks. This process extracts all the fruity notes and color from the grapes, while preserving the elegant tannins. The result is a beautiful glass of sparkling red wine. The aroma is broad, with ripe dark fruit notes like plums and cherries. The palate is pleasantly smooth yet powerful, with fine tannins and a fruity, elegant finish.Product details
