Vintage Report

The 2023 vintage in Languedoc has been awarded an excellent score of 94 points by Robert Parker. This indicates an exceptional vintage that has produced wines of very high quality.
For the wines of the Comtes de Lorgeril winery, we travel to the Languedoc wine region of France. It's one of the oldest wine regions in the country, with roots and terroir dating back to Roman times. Centuries ago, the Lorgeril family settled near the town of Carcassonne. A magnificent castle with hundreds of vineyards is where this wine family produces high-quality wines.

The perfect climate for Lorgeril wines

The Château de Pennautier, founded under Louis XIII in 1620, is the heart of the Lorgeril estate. The Domaine comprises 340 hectares, mainly in the Cabardes region in the north of the Languedoc, near the medieval city of Carcassonne. Miren and Nicolas de Lorgeril, direct descendants of the first Marquis de Pennautier, are the tenth generation of the family to make wine here. They took over in 1987 and have continued to expand it ever since. They own a total of 340 hectares of vineyards in the best regions of the South of France, generally located on the higher hills. This allows the grapes to receive a little more coolness in the warm Mediterranean climate. The wines must be authentic, reflect the terroir and, above all, exude grandeur, freshness and elegance.

A unique terroir for Lorgeril 1620 Pinot Noir

The vines are planted on chalk and clay soils, which provide a strong foundation. The vines have an average age of 40 years. At peak ripeness, the Pinot Noir grapes are harvested and brought to the winery. The entire traditional vinification process is meticulously followed to ensure the highest quality. The wines from Pays d'Oc, around Carcassonne in southern France, originate from a unique terroir. Ruby red in color, this Pinot Noir bursts with fresh red fruit on the nose. Soft on the palate with aromas of red cherries, raspberries, violets, and blackcurrant leaf. Well-structured with light tannins, restrained acidity, and a long, refreshing finish.
