Vintage Report

The 2022 vintage in the Languedoc was characterized by warm summers with abundant sunshine, resulting in a deep and warm flavor. Thanks to cooling winds over the hills, the ripening of the Merlot grapes proceeded gradually and balanced.
A popular house wine in fine restaurants, and we're not surprised. A wine to our liking, with a wonderfully smooth character. Nestled in the heart of the Vin de Pays d'Oc region lie the extensive vineyards of Les Bories. A large portion of these vineyards are filled with Merlot grapes, which thrive in the warm south of France. The warm summers provide the grapes with abundant sunshine, resulting in a deep and warm flavor. Fortunately, the region also enjoys some cooling thanks to the wind that blows across the hills. This provides a cooling effect in the Vin de Pays d'Oc region, preventing the ripening process from proceeding too vigorously.

The harvest of the Les Bories Merlot

At peak ripeness, usually in mid-September, the Merlot bunches are harvested by hand. This begins early in the morning to prevent excessive crushing. Upon arrival, the grapes are gently pressed to ensure only the pure, unadulterated juice flows into the barrels. After months of aging in the Les Bories cellars, the result is stunning and its defining characteristic is its softness.

What does the Merlot from Les Bories taste like?

When pouring the wine, its beautiful light red color immediately catches the eye. It bursts from the glass with aromas; we noted impressions of abundant ripe fruit and a touch of caramel or toffee, and of course, chocolate and plenty of blackberry. The palate is like a down comforter, so soft. With its beautiful flavor notes of black and red fruit and a touch of spice, it's absolutely superb. Beautifully ripe tannins give the wine a bite. This Les Bories Merlot is a delightful glass of wine! This red wine is a wonderful evening wine that will never disappoint, but it also pairs beautifully with light meat dishes, pasta, and pizza.
