The 2021 vintage for red wines from the Côte de Nuits received 92 points from Robert Parker, indicating excellent quality. The wines from this year are known for being relatively early drinking and very approachable.

Who isn't familiar with this top-notch Bourgogne Nuits Stain Georges, and a 1er Cru at that? The very best Pinot Noir grapes were used for this red wine from Domaine des Perdrix. It's no wonder, as only here can we find the finest red wines. The Pinot Noir grapes ripen exceptionally well here, giving the wine a unique character.

The vineyards of Domaine des Perdrix

The Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Perdrix" from the Domaine des Perdrix is produced in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. The estate covers 3.45 hectares, and the vines planted there benefit from predominantly clayey soils. The Domaine des Perdrix takes its name from the premier cru of Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Perdrix, which the estate operates as a monopoly. It is one of three estates owned by the Devillard family (along with Château de Chamirey and Domaine de la Ferté in the Côte Chalonnaise). Since the Devillard family acquired the estate in 1996, they have been producing exceptional quality wines there. The family made carefully considered choices, notably installing a cooler cellar to allow for longer aging, but with less heated barrels. Yields are low, ripeness is optimal, and the work in the vineyard is remarkable. The estate's red wines are powerful yet retain their finesse. The grapes are harvested by hand and transported in small boxes to the winery. This is where the vinification process, by talented winemaker Robert Vernizeau, begins. After harvest, the grapes are sorted, destemmed, and placed in barrels. The vinification process lasts between 15 and 20 days, after which the aging period begins. The wine is aged for 15 months in oak barrels, 40 percent of which are new.

The smell and taste of Nuits St Georges 1er Cru

This results in an elegant wine with good acidity and freshness, soft red fruit, gentle tannins, creaminess, and a subtle finish. The aroma is beautiful, intense, and full-bodied, with soft fruit like cherries and strawberries, beautifully broad and subtle, with a hint of vanilla and smoky notes.
