Vintage Report

The 2020 vintage was excellent in Saint-Émilion with a top score of 95 points. The wines are currently still a bit youthful and tannic, so they will greatly benefit from further cellaring.
We love this: a Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc, which gives you a completely different vibe than you're used to. In this Saint Emilion, red fruit dominates, complemented by blueberries and blackcurrant. But wait, there's more; a certain depth we don't often see. Taste the wine and you'll immediately know what we mean: wild strawberries, soft mocha, and sultry vanilla.

The Bordeaux wine of Baron des Fontenilles

In search of the finest wines, we love to travel throughout Europe. From the well-known names in Spain to the smallest wineries deep in Italy; we absolutely love it. However, we always love to return to the number one wine country. That is, of course, France. A wine tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages. One of the most striking wine regions is undoubtedly Bordeaux; perhaps the cradle of all other vineyards worldwide. We boarded a plane and after a short flight, landed in Bordeaux. This city breathes wine; wherever you go. It's no wonder the National Wine Museum is located here and the University of Bordeaux is the most prestigious in the field of viticulture. We took the car and set out to explore Bordeaux. This time, we headed east, away from the impressive Médoc region. We arrived in Saint-Émilion, the region where Merlot reigns supreme.

Impressions of Baron des Fontenilles St Emilion Grand Cru

In the hilly landscape of Saint-Émilion, Merlot thrives. Because of the less wind and humidity, the Merlot has free rein to develop well and with refinement. This is also the case in the vineyards of Baron des Fontenilles. Along with Cabernet Franc, a Bordeaux classic, Merlot forms the foundation of Baron des Fontenilles St.Émilion Grand Cru. Perfectly blended by the talented winemaker, this is perhaps our favorite wine from Saint-Émilion.
