Our Review

2020 x Brunello 🫶 This vintage is the best Brunello vintage I've ever experienced, and I've experienced some good ones: '07 (too warm for me), '09, '10 (great year, personally I found '09 fresher and tastier), '14 (bad year, but good houses made gems by using many top grapes in 2nd or 3rd wines) '15 (great, but early maturing), '16. But '20 has it all, intensity, little dried fruit, but lots of leather, tobacco, ham. Luce is a great example of this.

Of the 88 hectares of vineyards owned by Luce della Vite, 11 are located in the Albo del Brunello di Montalcino. This is where the Sangiovese for Luce Brunello is born. This wine is a tribute to the excellent wines produced in Montalcino. It was the first wine in Italy to achieve the Denominazione d'Origine Controllata e Garantita (Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin) in 1980. Today, it is one of the finest wines produced in Italy. Luce Brunello di Montalcino is sourced from the finest, highest-quality vineyards inspired by the unique habitat.

The ancient vineyard in Brunello di Montalcino truly has everything it takes to excel. Its perfect location, with its sunny exposure, cool winds blowing across the hills, and refreshing nighttime temperatures, is essential for the grapes to mature and the growing season to proceed smoothly. The Sangiovese grapes receive a truly royal upbringing, harvested entirely by hand at ideal ripeness and transported to the winery in small crates. This Brunello di Montalcino is aged for a full 24 months in Slovenian oak barrels in the cellars of Tenuta Luce. Lamberto Frescobaldi has been fully responsible for this project since 2002. In the vineyards of Brunello di Montalcino, he continues to write the story of Luce, a Super Tuscan wine appreciated worldwide.

What does the Tenuta Luce Brunello di Montalcino taste like?

The color is deep and intense with light garnet hues. Luce Brunello offers a complex bouquet on the nose, rich with notes ranging from small black fruit and spices to tobacco and tea leaves. The palate confirms the same aromatic complexity, with a beautifully soft and refined start that gives this red wine its wonderful balance. Excellent tannin texture lends it considerable complexity and flavor nuances such as balsamic, cherry, and rich herbs. What a full-bodied wine with so many impressions!
