Tenuta La Fuga Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Le Due Sorelle 2018 Tuscany, Italy
Tenuta La Fuga Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Le Due Sorelle 2018 is a powerful Brunello Riserva made from Sangiovese, originating from Tenuta La Fuga southwest of Montalcino. This wine is only produced in the best years and is a tribute to Giovanna and Fabia Cornaro, the wife and sister-in-law of Ambrogio Folonari. The 2018 vintage combines ripe red fruit, citrus, vanilla, milk chocolate, and velvety tannins with the depth of at least 48 months of aging in large oak barrels.
Vineyards and region
Le Due Sorelle comes from Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, one of the most prestigious origins for Sangiovese in Tuscany.
• Location / Origin: The grapes come from the vineyards of Tenuta La Fuga, southwest of Montalcino, on the historic hillside of Camigliano. This location gives the wine its distinct Montalcino character, with ripeness, structure, and aging potential.
• Altitude: The vineyards are located around 350 m above sea level. This altitude helps combine sun-ripened fruit with fresh tension, which is important for a long-lived Brunello Riserva.
• Soil: The soil consists of medium-heavy clay with a lot of skeletal material. This stony structure supports drainage and helps Sangiovese achieve concentration, tannin, and depth.
• Vineyard Management: The vines are planted with 5,000 plants per hectare and are trained using the low cordon pruning system. This combination helps to control growth and obtain grapes with sufficient concentration.
Grape composition
This Brunello Riserva is made entirely from Sangiovese.
• Sangiovese – Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG: Sangiovese gives Le Due Sorelle its red fruit, fresh acidity, spiciness, and firm tannin structure. In Montalcino, this grape gains extra power and aging potential, allowing the wine to develop for many years.
Vinification and aging
The vinification is classic for a serious Brunello Riserva, with long aging in large wooden barrels.
• Fermentation: The wine ferments in stainless steel tanks and has approximately 4 weeks of skin contact. This long maceration extracts color, structure, and tannins from the Sangiovese grapes.
• Aging / Wood Aging: The wine ages for at least 48 months in large oak barrels and then further refines in the bottle. What does Riserva mean for Brunello? Riserva means that the wine ages longer before release, with a minimum of 6 months of bottle aging and market introduction from the 6th year after the harvest.
• Alcohol percentage: With 15.5% alcohol, this Brunello Riserva has a lot of power for its concentrated fruit, long wood aging, and full structure.
• Aging Potential: Le Due Sorelle has an aging potential of over 30 years. The combination of Sangiovese acidity, tannins, wood aging, and concentration provides the wine with an impressive foundation for long development.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
Le Due Sorelle 2018 has a ruby red color with golden reflections. The aroma combines lemon, grapefruit, tangerine, vanilla, and milk chocolate with ripe red fruit and toasted notes. The taste is full, powerful, and long, with velvety tannins, juicy tension, and a savory finish.
• Serving temperature: Serve this Brunello Riserva at 18–20 °C, so that the full structure, ripe fruit notes, and velvety tannins blend beautifully.
• Dishes: Excellent with game, roasted beef, lamb, stews, dishes with truffle, mushrooms, and hard aged cheeses.

• 4.4 stars, Vivino: A very strong user score for this Brunello di Montalcino Riserva from Tenuta La Fuga.
More information about Tenuta La Fuga
Tenuta La Fuga has been owned by the Folonari family since 2001 and, with 9.8 hectares of vineyards and about 2 hectares of olive groves, is the smallest estate within the family group. Within Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute, La Fuga is entirely dedicated to Montalcino, with Sangiovese as the basis for Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, and this Riserva Le Due Sorelle. Precisely because of its small scale, Le Due Sorelle feels like a concentrated, carefully selected expression of the estate.
