What a delightful newcomer from the Argiolas winery, this red Cardanera from the Carignano del Sulcis wine region. It's made from the Carignan grape, which grows in a warm, yet windy area off the southwestern coast of Sardinia. This gives the red wine a lot of softness, but also freshness and balance thanks to the wind.

The success of the Argiolas winery from Sardinia

In 1938, Antonio Argiolas founded his winery near the capital, Cagliari, in the heart of Sardinia. The winery remains family-owned to this day and, with a cultivated area of 230 hectares, is not only one of the largest, but also one of the best and most renowned wineries on the island. With a focus on indigenous grape varieties that represent the charm and character of Sardinia, Argiolas is an undisputed favorite of wine lovers and critics. The vineyards for this Argiolas Carda Nera Carignano del Sulcis are located on the southwestern coast of Sardinia. The soil consists primarily of sandstone, clay, and sandy components. This makes the vineyard free of phylloxera. Fermentation and maceration take place under controlled temperatures for an average of 12 to 15 days. The juice is then transferred to cement tanks for malolactic fermentation. After bottling, the wine is aged in the bottle for at least two months.

A round and very balanced wine from Sardinia

The result is impressive! The Cardanera di Argiolas is an intense red wine from Sardinia made from the characteristic Sardinian Carignano grape. In the glass, it displays a rich ruby red. The aroma reveals abundant red and black fruit, complemented by notes of wild Mediterranean scrub. The Cardanera stands out with a round, very balanced palate with fine, velvety tannins. All in all, a stylish, spicy red wine full of elegance, soft and harmonious. A red wine that offers a classic interpretation of the regional Carignano grape and is therefore typical of Sardinian wine.
