Vintage Report

The 2020 harvest in New Zealand scored 84 points in the Robert Parker Vintage Chart, signifying above-average to excellent quality. The wines from this vintage are early maturing and very approachable to drink now.
The oak-aged Pinot Noir from Nautilus Estate in Marlborough is a beautiful example of top-quality Pinot Noir from New Zealand. This dark ruby-red wine is full-bodied and complex. Once again, Nautilus has succeeded in bringing a quality wine to the market. Nautilus is a New Zealand wine company owned by the renowned Australian producer Yalumba. Nautilus has its own vineyards but also sources grapes from contract growers. The red wines, primarily Pinot Noir, come from the company's well-equipped winery.

Red wine from Marlborough?

Marlborough is a stunningly beautiful wine-growing region in New Zealand. The region is sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds and the southerly winds that blow up from Antarctica. The region's climate is moderated by its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, which creates a cool, maritime climate. The region enjoys some of the highest sunshine hours in New Zealand, as well as cool, clear nights. These temperature differences are important for the accumulation and preservation of flavors. The Nautilus shell is depicted on the label. The mathematically perfect spiral can be found everywhere in nature: in the growth of seeds on a sunflower head, in the air movement of a cyclone, or in the spiral through which a hawk flies to its prey. The winery aims to express this natural balance and proportions in its wines. The grapes for this wine are harvested by hand. This Pinot Noir is obtained through modern vinification, with aging in French oak barrels for eleven months.

The aroma and taste of the Nautilus Pinot Noir

As soon as you open this bottle, a beautiful aroma of pomegranate, star anise, and cardamom greets you. On the palate, the wine has a medium body with fine tannins. Refined and balanced, this elegant wine displays good intensity and a long finish. A characterful and juicy wine with plenty of class and elegance. Delicious with a fine piece of venison or pheasant.
