Vintage Report

The 2022 vintage in the Côte de Beaune is rated with an excellent score of 95 points. This indicates an exceptional year with wines that possess both power and elegance.
Born in the plain between Santenay and the Maranges vineyard, this Pinot Noir comes from several plots with nearly identical terroirs. The soil is clay with limestone gravel and pebbles that ensure drainage. Exposed to the southeast or southwest, depending on the relief, it is a simple and effective wine: aromas of red fruit, smooth, lively, and elegant.

12 months of maturation in both wood and stainless steel

The Girardin family, one of Burgundy's oldest families, has lived in the area since the mid-1500s. The family estate was divided in the 1960s, and Justin took over part of his father's surname in 2012. Justin allows the vineyard to run as it pleases, intervening only when necessary. Although not certified organic, they do employ some biodynamic practices that mirror those used by Justin's grandparents and ancestors. The Pinot Noir grapes for this red Burgundy wine come from the Santenay vineyards. The vines are 50 years old, and the grapes are harvested entirely by hand. After harvest, the grapes are taken directly to the winery. Here, they are completely destemmed and first cold-soaked for 5 to 7 days in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 12 degrees Celsius. This allows the fruit flavors to develop. Fermentation then follows, lasting approximately 15 to 20 days. Only natural yeasts are used for this process. Finally, the wine is aged for 12 months, half in French oak barrels and half in stainless steel tanks.

What does the Justin Girardin Bourgogne Pinot Noir taste like?

Justin Girardin's Bourgogne Pinot Noir is a ruby red in the glass. The nose reveals aromas of cherry, blackberry, and floral notes. It's a supple, slightly robust, and fruity wine that reflects an excellent vintage. A lingering bouquet of ripe fruit and subtle flavors.
