About the Domain

Castello Banfi, founded in 1978 by Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani, is a leading winery in Montalcino, Tuscany. The estate is known for its innovative approach to viticulture and winemaking, with a strong focus on quality and sustainability.

Vineyard and Terroir

The vineyards for Poggio alle Mura surround the historic castle and are characterized by slopes with reddish soil, rich in clay and strewn with stones and boulders. This unique composition contributes to the wine's complexity and minerality.

Vinification

Fermentation takes place in Castello Banfi's patented hybrid tanks, which combine French oak and stainless steel. After fermentation, 40% of the wine is aged in 60-90 hectoliter French barrels, while the remaining 60% is aged in 350-liter French barriques for two years.

Tasting notes
