Vintage Report
The 2023 vintage in South Africa has been rated 90 points by Robert Parker, indicating excellent quality. The wines are currently still youthful and tannic, therefore further bottle maturation is recommended.
With the Spier Seaward series, the winemaker aims to showcase South Africa's versatility as a wine country. Spier boasts numerous vineyards, making it one of the largest wineries South Africa has to offer. Some vineyards are located close to the Atlantic coast, allowing the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to benefit from wind and cooler temperatures. This significantly impacts the grapes; the ripening process for the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes takes longer, giving them ample time to develop beautifully.
Wood aging for Seaward's Cabernet Sauvignon
This Spier Seaward Cabernet Sauvignon is fuller and more powerful than typical Cabernet Sauvignon wines from this part of South Africa. This is due to its coastal location. The grapes are harvested late, entirely by hand. This allows the winemaker to select only the very best grapes for the Spier Seaward Cabernet Sauvignon. After harvest, the wine is aged in oak barrels in the Spier cellars for at least 14 months. That's right: a full 14 months. The result is stunning!Full and very powerful this Seaward Cabernet
We were speechless when we tasted this Spier Seaward Cabernet Sauvignon. We had no idea what to expect from this South African wine. We already knew Spier had good wines; their wines have been a crowd-pleaser for years. However, this red wine surpassed everything we'd tasted before. What a sensation! The aroma is intense yet pleasant. Delicate notes of black fruit, plums, vanilla, light spices, and natural cedarwood greet your nose. The taste is just as spectacular. Soft, pleasant tannins combined with abundant black fruit and spices make this wine a beautiful spectacle. Take another sip, and nuances of licorice, dark chocolate, and even a hint of tobacco add to the complex yet refined flavor palette. And for this price? Almost unbelievable.Product details
