Because Sicily has endured many rulers throughout its rich history, its culture is incredibly diverse. The art of winemaking, for example, was introduced to Sicily early on. However, quality often lagged behind, with quantity becoming the norm. Fortunately, winemakers have invested heavily in their vineyards over the past thirty years, and the quality is better than ever.

An Italian wine from Purato

One of the island's key players is the Purato winery. Housed in an old 17th-century winery, the authenticity is already evident. Although wine has been produced at this winery for over 300 years, the Purato winery has only recently arrived. Stefano and Marina Girelli chose this location as the base for their winery in 2002. Their goal was to create a balance between viticulture and nature. And they succeeded, as in 2009 all Purato wines were officially certified organic.

Purato Rose Terre Siciliane wine

The basis for this refreshing rosé is the island's signature blue grape, Nero d'Avola. The grapes, grown in Trapani's southern vineyards, are harvested by hand. After harvesting and pressing, the fermentation process begins. During this process, the skins are fermented for only a very short time, giving Purato Rosé Terre Siciliane its attractive color.
