What is Rioja wine?
Rioja wine comes from the Rioja region in northern Spain and includes both red and white wines . Red Rioja is primarily made from Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. White Rioja comes primarily from Viura, often supplemented with Tempranillo Blanco or Garnacha Blanca. Rioja is known for its aging classifications: Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva. These indicate the amount of barrel and bottle aging a wine has undergone, thus determining its style.

Modern Riojas often use French oak for finesse; traditional Riojas are aged longer in American oak, which can impart notes of vanilla and coconut.
