Castello di Neive Barbera d’Alba DOC Superiore, Piedmont, Italy
The Castello di Neive Barbera d’Alba DOC Superiore is a powerful interpretation of Barbera from the Langhe, combining ripe fruit with extra structure from barrel aging. What does Superiore mean for Barbera d’Alba? Within this DOC, Superiore means that the wine has a higher minimum alcohol percentage and must age for at least 12 months, part of which is in wood, which provides more depth and refinement.
This wine is made entirely from Barbera grapes and comes from vineyards around Neive in the Langhe.
Origin: Langhe, Barbera d’Alba DOC
The vineyards are located in the hilly landscape of the Langhe, within the Barbera d’Alba DOC.
-
Barbera d’Alba DOC: appellation around Alba in Piedmont.
-
Hilly location: supports optimal ripening of Barbera.
-
Calcareous marl soils: provide structure and tension.
These conditions yield Barbera with ripe fruit and lively acidity.
Grape and Vinification
Barbera – Langhe, Piedmont
Barbera is known for its deep color and high natural acidity, resulting in wines with freshness and structure.
For the Superiore variant, the wine is vinified with controlled extraction to preserve color and fruit intensity. The wine then ages for at least 12 months, partly in wood, in accordance with regulations. This aging softens the structure and adds extra complexity.
Character and Ageing Potential
In the glass, this Barbera d’Alba Superiore displays an intense ruby red color. Typical aromas are ripe red and dark fruit, complemented by spicy and lightly toasted notes from barrel aging. The combination of fresh acidity and extra structure gives the wine balance and clear aging potential.
Serve around 16–18 °C to experience fruit, freshness, and wood influence in optimal harmony.
