The 2021 vintage in Argentina received an excellent rating of 92 points. However, the quality of the wines was inconsistent, even among the very best producers.

The history and success of the Zuccardi estate

The Zuccardi estate, located in Mendoza, Argentina, is renowned for its excellent wines. Sebastián Zuccardi, the third-generation winemaker in the Zuccardi family, has led the company since January 2000. The estate's history began in 1963 when Sebastián's grandfather planted the first hectare of vines in Maipú. Today, the estate comprises over 200 hectares of vineyards at the foot of the Andes Mountains, whose wines reflect the rich terroir of the Uco Valley. The vineyards are planted with various grape varieties, including Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tempranillo. Zuccardi wines are praised for their complexity, elegance, and ripeness, and have frequently been nominated for prestigious international awards. The Zuccardi family remains committed to innovation and sustainability in their winemaking processes. The grapes for this Fosil Chardonnay are grown in the San Pablo wine region. Planted just 300 meters from the Andes, the terroir of this white wine offers a unique combination of a cold climate, limestone soils, and breezes from one of the highest zones in the Uco Valley. The harvested grapes are of excellent quality and result in delicious, structured wines with wonderful aromatic complexity. The Chardonnay grapes are carefully selected and brought to the winery. The pressed juice ferments with indigenous yeasts and does not undergo malolactic fermentation. Finally, 70 percent of the wine is aged in stainless steel vats and 30 percent in French oak barrels.
