The official designation, Cremant d'Alsace, has existed since 1976. A Cremant is a sparkling wine made in the same way as the famous Champagne, complete with a second fermentation in the bottle. However, Champagne can only be called Champagne if it comes from this region and adheres to strict regulations. The same applies to a Cremant. For example, a Cremant d'Alsace may only be made from Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay. This Wolfberger is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes.
