Meia Encosta Red

The Vinhos Norges winery was founded in 1884 by two passionate brothers, Antonio and Francisco. They have made a significant contribution to Portuguese viticulture, as the winery has shown us the true value of Portuguese wines. In 1970, they launched a new project called Dão Meia Encosta. They purchased a beautiful vineyard in Dão and today produce a world-class wine there. The wines are known primarily for their affordable quality, without compromising Portuguese wine traditions. This hasn't gone unnoticed by the international wine press, which has frequently awarded Dão Meia Encosta wines gold medals.

The harvest of the red Dão Meia Encosta

The old vineyards are now producing a top-notch harvest, thanks in part to the pleasant climate. The grapes receive plenty of sunshine, but there's also plenty of room for cooling breezes. Typical Portuguese grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Jaén, Alfrocheiro, and Tinta Roriz are used. The entire wine is partially aged in oak barrels for six months after harvest. This gives it strength and finesse, which we can all taste.

The smell and taste of the Dão Meia Encosta Red

Upon pouring, we see a beautiful, clear ruby-red color with a purple sheen. The most beautiful aromas emerge, including orange blossom, small red fruits like berries and raspberries, with a touch of citrus. A good swirl of the glass will also reveal notes of vanilla and cedar, thanks to the oak aging. The palate is very smooth, with rounded flavors of red fruit and a touch of spice. Refined, soft tannins and ripe acidity contribute to a top-notch experience with this red Dão Meia Encosta.
