Náiades is the top cuvée from Bodegas Naia: a white wine with structure, power, and refinement. This 100% Verdejo is entirely fermented and aged in French oak, with prolonged contact with the lees and regular batonnage. Malolactic fermentation is intentionally avoided to preserve freshness. Náiades is bottled with a cork closure and has an alcohol content of 13.5%.
The grapes for Náiades come from 23.5 hectares of the estate's own vineyards in La Seca, in the heart of the DO Rueda. The vines are between 100 and 130 years old, planted ungrafted on their own roots, and grow in sandy soils that offer protection against phylloxera. The plots are located at an altitude of approximately 800 meters, which ensures cool nights and thus the preservation of aromatic tension. Due to the extreme age of the vines, yields are low, but the concentration is exceptionally high.
The grapes are harvested by hand in 15 kg crates. After a cold maceration of whole bunches, the grapes are selected on sorting tables. They are then pressed, and fermentation takes place in French oak barrels. The wine matures for 7 months in contact with its lees, with regular batonnage: the frequent stirring of the yeast cells, which contributes to the roundness and complexity of the wine. Malolactic fermentation is not applied in order to maintain the lively character of the Verdejo.
100% Verdejo – sourced from ungrafted vines aged 100 to 130 years old.
Náiades is made from Verdejo vines over 100 years old, hand-harvested and carefully selected. The combination of ungrafted vines, sandy soil, altitude, and aging on lees in French oak results in a Verdejo with unprecedented depth and freshness. An exceptional white wine that demonstrates the true potential of Rueda.
