Bodegas Vetus Flor de Vetus Rueda Verdejo 2025

High-altitude micro-plots around Segovia give this Verdejo a remarkably fresh, aromatic style with citrus, floral notes, and a refined tropical hint. Its lively acidity and persistent finish make it delicious as an aperitif and with fish, seafood, or light rice dishes.

Vineyards and Region

The grapes grow in the westernmost part of D.O. Rueda, in the high-altitude area around Segovia.

  • Location / Origin: The wine comes from individual micro-plots around Segovia. This area forms a distinctive, high-altitude part of Rueda and is located further west than the central production area around Valladolid.
  • Altitude: The vineyards are situated between 810 and 930 m above sea level. This is exceptionally high for the region and ensures cooler nights, allowing the grapes to retain their fresh acidity well during ripening.
  • Soil: The very sandy soil is permeable to water and relatively poor, causing the vines to focus their energy on a limited amount of concentrated fruit.
  • Exposure: The plots are on slopes with a north-south orientation, ensuring the bunches are exposed to sunlight more evenly throughout the day.
  • Vineyard Management: The vines are traditionally planted as free-standing bushes, and the soil is cultivated conventionally. The yield is approximately 6000 kg per hectare.

Vinification and Maturation

The simple, precise vinification is entirely focused on preserving the pure Verdejo character.

  • Harvest & Selection: Upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and lightly crushed before fermentation begins.
  • Fermentation: Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. This low-oxygen environment preserves the primary aromas and accentuates the vibrant freshness of the fruit.
  • Maturation: The wine is not aged in wood, allowing citrus, floral notes, and juicy fruit to come through clearly and directly.

Grape Composition

Vetus opts for a pure expression of Rueda's most important white grape.

  • 100% Verdejo – Segovia: Verdejo brings pronounced citrus aromas, floral nuances, and lively acidity. The high altitude here gives the grape variety extra tension and a persistent, energetic mouthfeel.

Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions

Clear and pale yellow with green reflections. The nose is expressive and fresh, with flowers, citrus, and ripe tropical fruit; on the palate, juicy citrus notes, balanced acidity, and a pleasantly persistent finish follow.

  • Serving Temperature: Serve this Verdejo at 8–10 °C, so the wine remains refreshing while the floral and fruity aromas have enough room to develop.
  • Dishes: Pair it with grilled white fish, shrimp, mussels, sushi, seafood paella, or a goat cheese salad; the fresh acidity complements salty and slightly creamy flavors.

More Information about Bodegas Vetus

Bodegas Vetus was established in 2003 when the Antón family wanted to combine the potential of Toro with a more modern and fresher approach to local grape varieties. After the success of the first wine, their own estate and a new cellar followed, after which Vetus also ventured to the highlands of Segovia for Verdejo. The winery is part of Artevino Family Wineries, which also includes Izadi, Orben, and Finca Villacreces.
