From vineyard to bottle

The origin, grapes and craftsmanship behind this wine.

Jaume Serra Semi Seco is an alluring Cava with fine bubbles, ripe white fruit, and a soft, slightly sweet finish. This sparkling wine is made from Macabeo, Parellada, and Xarel·lo and gets its mousse through the traditional second fermentation in the bottle. Its fresh citrus, apple, floral notes, and rounded taste make this an accessible bubbly for drinks, aperitifs, and light dishes.

This Cava comes from the D.O. Cava, the Spanish designation for sparkling wines with a second fermentation in the bottle.

Location / Origin: Jaume Serra is located in Vilanova i la Geltrú, near Barcelona, on a hill that slopes gently towards the Mediterranean Sea.

Region: Cava is made according to the traditional method. This gives the wine its fine, persistent bubbles and fresh structure.

Soil: The official product information describes calcareous, slightly sandy, and clayey soils with little organic matter. This suits fresh base wines for sparkling wine.

Climate & Influences: The area has a Mediterranean climate with influences from both the coast and the inland. This combination provides ripe fruit, but also fresh acidity.

Vinification is focused on fine bubbles, fresh fruit, and a soft Semi Seco style.

Base wine: The base wine is made from Macabeo, Parellada, and Xarel·lo. These three grapes form the classic foundation for Cava and together provide fruit, freshness, and structure.

Second fermentation: After the addition of sugar and selected yeasts, the second fermentation takes place in the bottle. This is how the natural bubbles and refined mousse are created.

Cellar rest: The bottles age for at least 12 months in the cellar, in silence, darkness, and at a temperature that does not exceed 16 °C. This helps to keep the bubbles small and persistent.

Dosage: Semi Seco has a higher dosage than Brut, giving the wine a soft, rounded finish with a hint of sweetness. The official product information cites 35 g/l of sugar.

Alcohol percentage: With 11.5% alcohol, this Cava remains light, fresh, and easy to drink.

This Semi Seco is made from three classic Cava grapes.

Macabeo – Cava: Macabeo provides white fruit, soft citrus, and a round foundation.

Parellada – Cava: Parellada brings elegance, floral notes, and freshness to the blend.

Xarel·lo – Cava: Xarel·lo ensures structure, lively acidity, and extra tension in the finish.
