The beautiful hills of the Sierra del Maigmo are home to the old vineyards for this Tinto Monastrell. The soils are calcareous with a sandy texture. Production is therefore limited, but the quality is exceptionally high. Winemaker Telmo focuses on the Monastrell grape, which beautifully expresses the vineyards near Alicante, Spain. This has resulted in this round and fruity red wine.

The old vineyards of Tinto Monastrell

Telmo Rodriguez is a renowned winemaker, much loved and renowned in Spain. He travels throughout Spain in search of the finest vineyards to create innovative wines. In some cases, he deliberately seeks out old and sometimes forgotten vineyards. In these locations, he discovers lesser-known grape varieties. By partnering with local winemakers, he aims to elevate the quality of wines in these regions. While the knowledge lies with the local winemakers, the skill rests with Telmo himself. However, the character of the local grape is always central. The vines are old, but the winemaking methods are a blend of modern and traditional. The wines must always be accessible, and this Al Muvedre Tinto Monastrell is a wonderful example of that. The grapes are harvested by hand and transported directly to the winery. A long maceration process follows. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, and the final wine is aged in tanks for approximately 6 to 8 months.

The sultry aromas of Al-Muvedre Tinto Monastrell

The Tinto Monastrell emerges in the glass with a purplish-red color. The aroma is sultry, with aromas of black fruit and some earthy notes. The taste is soft and supple. The fruity notes make it fresh, and the light tannins give it a pleasant depth. The finish is slightly spicy, completing the flavor palette.
