Our Review
Allendorf Quercus Pinot Noir Trocken, Rheingau, Germany
The Allendorf Quercus Pinot Noir Trocken is an oak-aged Spätburgunder from the Rheingau, where oak plays a central role in the wine's character. What does the name Quercus refer to? Quercus is the botanical name for oak, directly referring to the maturation of this Pinot Noir for no less than 24 months in wood. The result is a powerful yet balanced wine with a distinct oak influence and layering.
With 13.14% alcohol and a dry style, this wine positions itself as a structured Pinot Noir with depth.
Origin and vineyards
The grapes grow on the slopes of the Taunus mountains in the Rheingau.
-
Rheingau, Germany: region with both Riesling and high-quality Spätburgunder.
-
Slopes of the Taunus mountains: ensure optimal exposure.
-
Warm afternoon and evening sun: promotes full ripening of the grapes.
These conditions produce Pinot Noir with concentration and ripe structure.
Grape and maturation
Pinot Noir – Rheingau
Pinot Noir, often called Spätburgunder in Germany, is known for its finesse and aromatic complexity.
The wine matures for 24 months in oak, providing extra depth, structure, and a distinct oak character. The wine is vegan and sealed with a cork.
Character and style
The Quercus Pinot Noir shows aromas of cherry, licorice, spices, leather, and tobacco. On the palate, you taste blackberry, forest fruits, and toasted beech nuts. The wine has refined tannins and a slightly spicy finish, while remaining powerful yet balanced.
This combination of fruit, spiciness, and oak influence makes the wine suitable for dishes with mushrooms, game, beef, or spicy cuisines such as Moroccan cuisine.
