Along the California coast, cooling plays an important role in the ripening of the grapes.
- Location / origin: The 2024 vintage carries the Central Coast appellation, on the west coast of the United States.
- Climate & influences: In Livermore Valley, Wente's home base within this region, warm afternoons alternate with cool mornings and evenings. Fog and sea breezes help to maintain the natural acidity in the grapes.
The winemaker combines the fruity style of stainless steel with the roundness provided by barrel fermentation.
- Fermentation: The juice is fermented partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in American oak barrels. This gives the fresh fruit a soft, creamy edge.
- Aging: The wine ages for 5 months in a combination of tanks and barrels. The barrel-fermented portion remains on the fine lees. Stirring these lees monthly adds extra fullness to the mouthfeel.
The fruit and round structure are supported by Wente's signature white grape variety.
- Chardonnay – Central Coast: Provides apple and pear fruit, fresh acidity, and enough body to carry the influence of oak.
